Flowers from Pictage

thank you pictage.

On September 14th I was featured as a guest on the Pictage Community Forum. I spent two hours in front of my Mac furiously typing away answering any and all questions thrown at me by the other photographers who use Pictage and the Pictage Forum. Good thing I type 80 wpm!! I was surprised at that variety of questions regarding marketing, camera equipment, workflow, risk...I never realized how much information I have acquired over my years of doing photography!

Anyway, last night I returned home from my Thursday wedding at the Montage to discover this lovely arrangement of flowers- I thought they were for my birthday (October 4 hint hint) but they were thank you flowers from the Community Forum at Pictage!!

The Montage Resort

lailani and francis.

Today's gorgeous event was at the spectacular Montage Hotel in Orange County. Lailani and Francis spared no detail, and Lani was fortunate to have her cousin, Teresa, acting as wedding coordinator to ensure a smooth event.

Of course the flowers were amazing because they were provided by the extremely talented R. J. Balthazar.

A Vintage Wedding in Coloma

aimee & erik.

Today's wedding was in and around Coloma, California. As with all Northern California weddings, my second shooter for the day was my twin sister, Joy. I love shooting with her because the day is always that much more fun! Aimee and Erik had a gorgeous wedding in the Gold Country complete with a vintage firetruck (Erik is a volunteer fire fighter) and a ceremony at a vintage church. We started the day at the vintage-style World Famous Barber Jon's where the men got a beer and a close shave!

My vintage BMW

the down side of today...

I finally sold my 1973 BMW 3.0CS. I bought that car for myself as a birthday gift, and I've had it for seven years. I know it was time to finally let it go to a very excited car enthusiast (who is going to take very good care of it, I just know it) but I will admit that my eyes filled up as my lovely car left my driveway without me in it. Olive and I say goodbye...(on the upside, I sold it for only $500 less than I originally bought it for... how many of you can say that about your cars??)

Ceremony Magazine

the up side of today...

I went to another party without my pocket digital camera again, so you'll have to view the world the way my cell phone does, I'm afraid. Tonight Ceremony Magazine threw another fun event on the rooftop of the Bel Age Hotel in West Hollywood.

I particularly liked the ice sea horse:

Jules Bianchi and her usual party co-hort, Tiffany Nainkin:

After being trapped in my office all day, its nice to hang out with other people who know exactly where I'm coming from. There were a LOT of amazing wedding vendors at the party, but I think most of them were photographers. Case in point, check out the crowd who went to Canter's afterward - the list reads like the who's who of LA Wedding Photographers:

From left to right, Joe Barnet, Joe Photo, Karen French, Yoshi Morimoto, Dina Douglass, Mike Colon, Victor Sizemore, Harmony Walton (token non-photographer and owner of the wonderful Bridal Bar), Mirta Barnet, Josh Bobrobe, Robert Evans, and of course yours truly, Jules Bianchi behind the camera.

And later, Stuart Townsley (with Mike and I giving his cool glasses a try)

His and Her Ceremonies, Los Feliz

althea and david.

Today's wedding was a crazy twelve hour event, but the time just flew by because we were having so much fun. Althea and David met as next door neighbors when they were teenagers, so they have been together for a long long time. Because of this, their wedding party was no less than 20 of their closest friends, and that doesn't include the three adorable flower girls!

Althea and David had TWO ceremonies today - a full Catholic mass, and a lovely outdoor Jewish ceremony in the garden of the private residence where the reception was held.

The entire event was pulled off without a hitch by the suberb talents of Tracy Serreno of RSVP Event & Wedding Design.

David is super cool in my book because not only was he excited when I pulled out my Holga and loved the lensbaby shots I showed him, but he had just bought himself the Canon 20D to take on his honeymoon! Here are a some (but certainly not all) of my favorites:

Los Angeles Magazine Party

On the rooftop of the Bel Age Hotel, Los Angeles Magazine threw a "Spa Party" tonight. Massages, manicures, eyebrows... it was all available along with champagne and Borba water! I searched the house today and finally found my pocket digital camera so I was able to properly document our evening. (no more cell phone photos for the blog!) I went with my new party buddy, Tiffany Nainkin. Another industry event, another reason to dress up! I love this photo Tiffany took of me fussing with my jacket!

We couldn't BELIEVE the generous gift bags they gave us at the end of the night! Seriously, they were the BEST gift bags I've ever received from one of these industry parties. Crazy good stuff in there:

Party at Paramount

I really need to find my little pocket digital camera... my cell phone just isn't cutting it for these nighttime social (read: necessary schmoozing) events I keep going to!

Last night I went to a really cool party thrown by "The Knot" for all of its advertisers. I am really grateful to The Knot because they have featured so many of my weddings. (click here to check them out...) I loved their theme of pink and white Gerber Daisies because that is my favorite flower. The event was put on by my friend and co Bridal Bar member, Mary Sushinski of Occasions.

Its fun to have the opportunity to dress up and socialize with other wedding vendors. I went with my good friend and talented photographer, Dina Douglass, and here is a silly shot from my cell phone with our friend Tiffany Nainkin!

and this is me in my new cocktail dress in front of The Knot daisy and the paramount gate.

Wattles Mansion, Hollywood

Today I had the great privilege of shooting with my good friend and talented photographer, Tiffany Nainkin. She shot with me a few weddings back, so today I returned the favor! The bride was really stunning, and she and her husband were really fun and easy going which makes for GREAT photographs!

The wedding was at the beautiful Wattles Mansion, and these are my favorite shots of the day:

Jules Bianchi, public speaker!!

As many of you know, I use Pictage to showcase my wedding images and produce the Bonsai and Birch books that I offer (and love!) Pictage is a really great company, and I'm happy to be affiliated with them.

Pictage hosted the first Annual Pictage Partner Conference for all of its photographers around the country to attend, and I was chosen to be one of the presenters!! I was so excited to speak in front of my peers, and I think the talk went really well. My topic was called "A Cure for the Common Photographer: Creative Tips to help You Stand Out from the Crowd." I was able to share a little bit about what I do and how I make my brand stand out. My good friend (and photographer extraordinaire), Chris Becker, shot the cute photo of me you see on the sign below.

Pictage threw a really fun party at the hotel - complete with a funny band called "Freddie Welfare and the Foodstamps." It was good to reconnect with old friends as well as have the opportunity to meet new ones. So many people came up to me during the two day event to introduce themselves and tell me how much they like my work and enjoyed my presentation! It was so flattering. It made me feel really good about myself and what I'm doing.

There was even an article in the newsletter written about me called "In the Spotlight: Jules Bianchi." This was included with every Pictage packet given out to the photographers at the conference. Just a little something for the scrapbook!!

I cannot find my pocket digital camera, but my friend (and talented wedding photographer!), Robert Evans, shot this cute photo with my cell phone:

St. Francis Winery, Sonoma

tuan & casey

What a fun wedding. First of all, I love going to the Bay Area for weddings because I get to shoot with my sister, Joy, and always have such a good time (not to mention we sometimes have the opportunity to do our famous dance... those of you who know what I'm talking about consider yourselves lucky!!) Today's wedding was no exception. Tuan and Caitlin (aka Casey by her loved ones) were married at
St. Francis Winery in Sonoma. It was a gorgeous day out - not too hot - and to protect their guests from heat, Tuan and Casey thoughtfully provided parasols. I love this shot because you can see their kiss right through the parasol!

success with the lensbaby! I was excited to give the new lensbaby a try at an actual wedding... its really hard to focus, but I thought this shot of lovely caitlin was particularly cool...

To add a little ambience, the pathways were lined with candle-lit bags. I thought it was really romantic...

I decided to cross process the roll from the swinglens camera and just got all the images back! how beautiful is this??
