Hollywood Portraits

Tonight Tiffany Nainkin and I went to Los Angeles Magazine's opening of their Hollywood Portraits exhibit at the Arclight in Hollywood. It was fun to be inspired by cool shots of famous faces!!

The Arclight foyer

Jules Bianchi, Tiffany Nainkin and Alan Ball! Photographer Cheryl Himmelstein shot this image of Mr. Ball next to the green hearse that Lauren Ambrose drives in the show he created, Six Feet Under. (Jason and I are waiting impatiently for the fifth and final season to come out on DVD. I miss the Fishers!)

Tiffany Stern!!!

My adorable friend and talented wedding photographer, Tiffany, needed new headshots for her website bio, so I agreed to take them for her.

I was excited to have the opportunity to shoot with the 5D and sampled a bunch of the different color settings... still don't have a favorite setting, but these are a few of my favorites of Tiffany.

Canon 5D

Today I went down to Samy's to take advantage of the no tax sale and buy a Canon 5D. I am SO excited and can't wait to start using it for my weddings! The color is so beautiful and the files are so clean - even at the highest speed. And now all of my lenses will be full frame again! Fisheye anyone??

I guess the Contax 645 is officially going to eBay - anyone need a medium format camera?

Thanksgiving and Families

Today I photographed the Fentress Family...well, only the men are still Fentresses. The immediate family was together for Thanksgiving along with all of their spouses, children and dogs. This was the first time in over two years that the entire family was in one place, and Mrs. Fentress wanted to document that for her 2005 Christmas card.

There were several good ones, but this one is my favorite:

being thankful for family.

Today is Thanksgiving Day and I'm really excited because my family drove down from the Bay Area to spend it with me. Even though I have lived in LA for over 10 years, this is a first! Usually, I drive up there to see them. My family is really supportive of me, and I am always thankful for that.

Since my family doesn't live nearby, Olive and Abigail are my little family here in LA. They truly make my life better, and I am so thankful them.

Dinner with Next Exit

Last night Cat and Adi of Next Exit Photography invited a few photographers over for dinner and wedding conversation. Its always fun to hang out with other wedding photographers and talk shop! I was asked to bring the dessert, and when I stopped to get a bottle of wine at the grocery store and saw a giant rainbow cookie.... I just couldn't resist.

We do not remember days, we remember moments

Tonight another photographer friend, Sara France, told me this crazy story about how a pregnancy portrait she was hired to shoot ended up becoming her documenting the surprise early birth of the baby instead! She said she was so honored to capture those moments for her clients and she felt changed because of it.

It got me to thinking about my own family and how lucky I was to document the birth of both of my nieces. It reminded me of this lovely quote I read last week: "We do not remember days, we remember moments." I think this may be my new mantra because it has so much to do with why photography appeals to me. I am very aware of how fleeting life is, and there are so many moments I just want to hold on to.

Amelia's birth was momentous for my first niece, Penelope, because it marked the end of her life as a single child. However, she knows what great friends my sister and I are and how much fun we have together, so she couldn't wait to have a sister in her life, too.

These photographs are now over a year old (perhaps some of you saw the photographs I did of Millie's first birthday) but they define the important moments from that day for me:

Project: Color

Hello Autumn!

Because I had been trying to come up with a new project for this month, when I went to the Farmer's Market with Joy and her kids today, I brought the camera along hoping to be inspired. When we arrived, the theme of COLOR became readily obvious, so I decided to make a Farmer's Market rainbow!

Costanoa, Part Two (the Wedding)

Anna and I had so much fun shooting this wedding together. I'm so glad she asked me to come along! I just loved working with Julie and James, and he is an identical twin, just like me. He and his brother are part of an hilarious comedy sketch group called Kasper Hauser. They actually did a bit AT the wedding and had guests rolling in their seats. Very hard to shoot when you're laughing...

Pigeon Point Lighthouse is a landmark to find Costanoa. I stopped and grabbed a shot on my way into the wedding.

My favorite part of the ceremony is the walk out. The couple is always SO happy at this moment, and its my favorite moment to capture!!

Costanoa, San Francisco

I am in the San Fransico Bay Area, and this weekend I have the extreme pleasure of working with the wildly talented Anna Kuperberg. Anna and I met in Vegas last year at the Digital Wedding Forum Convention and we really hit it off. Today I shot the rehearsal dinner of the unbelievably cute Julie and James, and tomorrow Anna and I will be shooting their wedding together. Both the wedding and rehearsal are at Costanoa, a very cool resort and lodge in Pescadero with an stunning view of the ocean.

The rehearsal dinner was a low-key BBQ complete with wildflowers in jars, red checked table cloths and fiddlers to entertain.

A few favs from the rehearsal dinner:
