Ashes & Snow

I have been wanting to see "Ashes & Snow" for a while now. Yesterday, Jason and I finally went with our friend, Abby. Gregory Colbert's Ashes and Snow is an ongoing project that weaves together photographic works, three 35mm films, art installations and a novel in letters. The show exhibits photographs and films he made over 14 years of expeditions to India, Egypt, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Kenya, to name just a few countries. The photographs are huge (4 foot by 6 foot!) and printed on thick Japanese paper. The whole exhibit is breathtaking and beautiful, and I highly recommend going before it leaves Santa Monica in May.

The Museum is constructed of 152 stell cargo containers and is an amazing sight to see in and of itself.

My Pictage User Group

THANK YOU to everyone who braved the driving rain on Tuesday to attend the Pictage User Group meeting that I lead monthly here at my home studio. Sean Azul was our Studio Spotlight and also graciously gave a helpful RAW workflow demonstration as well.

As of next month, Pictage will be combining my group with the Los Angeles group to make the largest PUG in the country. Because we'll be meeting AT Pictage, we will have access to more than any other PUG!! It will be an amazing resource, so if you're a photographer in the area, be sure to come out!

I have been busy, and I'm a little behind on the posts!

Congratulations to my friend, David Jay, who's online Photography Forum, Open Source Photo just hit 50,000 posts! OSP is a great resource for photographers to learn more about wedding photography as well as a wonderful place to make friends.

To congratulate David Jay, there was a surprise party on Sunday night at a cool Thai food place in Orange County complete with DJ's favorite food, Krispy Kreme donuts, for dessert!!!

WPJA accepts Jules Bianchi Photography!

I just found out this morning that Jules Bianchi Photography was officially accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association!

In the WPJA's own words, here is a description of the association:

"Leading the way in Wedding Photojournalism, WPJA represents the most discriminating talent around the world technically, creatively and visually. Qualified members hold industry-leading standards, skills and business integrity. IMPORTANT NOTE: Membership in the WPJA depends entirely on photographers meeting our high standards for inclusion. One CANNOT simply pay his/her way into the WPJA. We emphasize this is NOT another ad-driven wedding web site."

I am so incredibly flattered and excited to have been accepted!!

Sold Out!!

Every spring, gaggles of wedding photographers flock to Las Vegas for either the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) or DWF (Digital Wedding Forum) Convention (held simultaneously.) There is a huge trade show and tons of parties, and its really fun to catch up with friends and take seminars on all things photography.

This year, I will be revamping the talk I gave at the September Pictage PartnerCon in Los Angeles and speaking for the DWF. The seminar actually sold out in January and they asked me to do it twice to accommodate more people! I can't wait! Pictage asked me to speak for them at WPPI, but the schedule conflicted with my two DWF talks. Maybe next year!

When a new 100 2.8 macro lens and two 4Gb Ultra II Compact Flash cards arrive at the front door, all work stops! Olive, my constant muse, let me shoot her with the new toys. And they came just in time...Saturday's wedding is a big one at the St. Regis in Dana Point!

A Soolip Wedding

I have had the good fortune of becoming friends with Soolip's founder, Wanda Wen, and photographed Soolip's gorgeous custom letterpress invitations as a favor for her a few months back. This past Sunday, she asked me to be the event photographer (as well as a vendor) for the elite bridal faire, A Soolip Wedding which took place at the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood.

This is the third time I have been involved with A Soolip Wedding, and I would have to say that this particular event was the most spectacular. Smoothly pulled off by Plan A Events, everyone had an amazing time!

To see ALL images from A Soolip Wedding, click here.

Here are some custom stamps made by PhotoStamps (which I'm going to be offering very soon!) and of course, no party is complete without the GIFT BAGS!

Details, details, details!!

So so many delicious, beautiful treats!

Conversations with experts were short "classes" on things such as these two, "The Art of Gift Wrapping" with Soolip's Wanda Wen, and "Los Angeles Weddings Style" with Los Angeles Weddings Magazine editor, Kathy Nenneker.

An incredible bridal show with gowns by Anna Maier~Ulla Maija Couture and jewelry by Harry Winston.

There were unbelievable prizes in the raffle. This lucky lady won a trip to FIJI worth $5000 for her honeymoon!

UCLA

I am so excited to be shooting Meichih and David's wedding at the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point this May! Today's engagement shoot was nearly canceled because of the rain, but I'm so glad it wasn't. Meichih and David both graduated from UCLA, so they chose their alma mater as the location for the day.

too many favorites to choose from, but here are a few:

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

My sister sent this photo to my phone this morning - how fun to have kids!!! Not that you should need a reason, but having kids seems to make a good excuse to really celebrate all the holidays. I am constantly amazed by my photographer friends who have children, btw. I find it hard enough to keep up with my business as a single person, I can't imagine if I had children in the mix! I love being an auntie, though!!

Penelope and Millie check out what the leprechauns left them!!

San Diego

I can't wait to shoot Ashley and Jason's wedding at La Costa Resort & Spa this August! This Saturday I drove down to San Diego to do their engagement portraits, and was so pleased to find that they are not only a gorgeous couple who are really into each other, but really easy-going and fun to be around. Here are some favorites from the day:

Jason is a full-time fire fighter, so first we grabbed a few shots at the Firehouse:
