What I saw:

the Princess herself (I spent a good portion of my morning blowing up balloons)

Penelope's friends ALL helped her blow out the candles!

America's Favorite pastime

Angel's Game! I have been to very few baseball games in my life, so when I was invited to go to the Angel's game with a few other wedding photographers yesterday, I decided, why not? It was a gorgeous day for a game!

Great seats with Tony, David Jay, Becker, & Shelly.

Delicious baseball food!

Happy Birthday Olive!!!

I brought Olive home to live with me when she was four weeks old and still had blue eyes and a patch of white fur on her chest. Today Olive is eight years old and still acts like a puppy! She is my best companion and such a total joy to have in my life. I love her and am so thankful that I've been given the gift of her love in return. She is the funniest dog I have ever met and she constantly keeps me laughing and just happy in general. For those of you who have dogs you'll know what I mean when I say there is NOTHING like coming home to someone so genuinely thrilled and excited to see you EVERY SINGLE time you walk in the door. Olive is a sweet dog who loves me and Abigail (our cat) and makes my life 100% better in every way. She is my constant muse and lets me test out every new lens, flash and camera on her! She's such a gorgeous subject!

Happy birthday, Olive! I LOVE YOU!!!

Marriott, Marina Del Rey

jennifer & bryan.

Today's wedding took place on the helipad at the top of the Marriott in Marina Del Rey. SUCH a cool site for a wedding! The ballroom was right next door with huge glass windows overlooking all of Los Angeles. The flowers were simple but stunning and provided by Chris Matsumoto.

What I saw:

Jennifer & Bryan's wedding bands were really cool.

Father & son.

Someone asked us if Jennifer was a movie star. She definitely should be...

I loved the dramatic clouds today.

The gorgeous couple.

Handsome groom.

Stunning bride.

The new family.

The view was amazing, and I love this cross-processed look to go with it.

First dance.

Today's San Francisco wedding was so much fun! Gorgeous flowers, high spirits, and beautiful light despite the rain. I want to say a special thank you to Stefanie (kindly holding an umbrella over me in the picture below), one of my 2005 brides who is learning photography and came to help us with today's wedding!

A Team Effort for Twins

I had to post this image because I love it so much. My sister sat down at the Westin bar and within seconds we were being photographed by three different people. Go figure at a photography convention!

this particular image is so fantasic, I just love it. It was shot by Henry Chan with a 85 1.2 on a Canon 5D supplied by David Chang-Sang and tweaked in PhotoShop by Brian Tao. A real team effort!!

Joy in Vegas

I feel SO fortunate that my twin sister, Joy, flew out to Vegas to help me with my two seminars. She is my best friend and has been such an amazing support and help to my photography business. She is my second shooter on all my Bay Area weddings, and this was her first trip to Las Vegas! My good friend, Becker, took us out to lunch this afternoon and shot this adorable portrait of us in the Bellagio Hotel.

Vegas, Baby, VEGAS!!

This has been one of the craziest weeks of my life!! I was honored to be asked to speak for the Digital Wedding Forum Convention on two occasions this week. My first talk was at 2pm today, and it was SO GREAT! I was so flattered by everyone who attended my talk, and I can't wait for another great experience tomorrow.

I have been in Las Vegas for the DWF and the WPPI trade show since Sunday. At this point in my life, most of my friends are also wedding photographers. Of course we are all here for the seminars and the cool new products at the trade show, but what we really come here is all the networking... and by "networking" I mean all of the parties!! I have had such an amazing time hanging out with all of my friends and have met so many wonderful people this week.

Pysanky

I am Ukrainian on my mother's side of the family, and we have made Ukrainian Easter Eggs (pysanky) since I was a little girl. Every year at Eastertime, I set up all of the dyes and tools for about a week so a few friends can come over and make eggs with me each day.

Photographers checking this blog might recognize Jessica Claire and Dina Douglass, and client friends might recognize Althea & David or Pam who are clients-turned-friends from weddings I shot last year. Thank you, too, to Melisande, Logan, Lori, Abby and Christine for joining in, and of course, Abigail and Olive. Special thanks to Jason who did most of the teaching of the actual process while I did my usual fussing about taking photos with my new 30D.

Pysanky is done by applying bees wax to the eggs with tools called "kistka" as they are dipped into darker and darker dyes. Once the egg comes out of the darkest color all of the wax is melted off with a candle. Then the egg is varnished and drained of its raw insides with a special little tool. A really elaborate egg can take hours to finish, so its a really fun chance to catch up with friends and hang out while doing something creative.

Like my late grandmother, I actually have quite a large collection of eggs from all the years we've been doing this. (If you look closely, you can see them on blue shelf in the background of a few pics.)
