My roommates

Although I always shoot RAW at my weddings, tonight I was having fun shooting jpegs and testing out the custom white balance feature on the 5D. I think it rocks. As usual, my roommates, Olive and Abigail, were happy to be my subjects.

And just a sidenote about my pets: I love how much richer (not to mention fluffier) my life is because of them. I know people say having children changes your whole world... well, having pets like Olive and Abigail has to be the next best thing. I cannot imagine my life without them - they have such funny personalities and are so wonderful to have around! I think its cool that my pets match each other, but that was unintentional, I swear!!

La Costa Resort & Spa

ashley & jason.

Yesterday's wedding at the La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad was so beautiful and so much fun! Kristin Garuba of Pink Papaya Creative Events made sure that the day went without a hitch.

A big thank you to my good friend, Sara France, for lending her creative talents and shooting with me!

fun with film

At most every wedding I like to pull out my Holga or my vintage swinglens to shoot a roll of film. It makes me so sad that two of my favorite films are already discontinued. I am going to keep trying to incorporate a little bit of film at each wedding, but its just getting harder and harder!

Here is a shot from the swinglens of Jennifer and Michael coming down the aisle as husband and wife. I love this camera because you can see them as well as all of their guests!

I also recently got back the roll I cross-processed from Elaine and Riva's wedding. I just LOVE this image! You can see me in there with them!!

DWF U

Having my sister, Joy, on my team has been such a great experience! Its been really fun doing the DWF U workshop with her this week, and I can't wait to integrate her into my business even more. She is a good shooter, (and shoots at all my Bay Area weddings) but I think having her help on the business end, too, is going to be a real gift!

Here are some shots she took during today's workshop with Cliff Mautner while I was in the hotel rooom working. I just love her eye.

poker with Nonno

I was born in Ilinois, and I still have a little bit of family in Chicago. Joy and I came to Chicago a day early to hang out with family so Anna, one of our cousins, took us to visit our 85 year old Nonno today for lunch. I love visiting my grandfather because he always cooks us these super yummy italian meals made with tomatoes and basil out of his own garden. After lunch we played cards for about three hours. It was a really nice way to spend a Sunday!

DWF U starts bright and early in the morning!

Traveling to Chicago

Wish me luck! Joy and I are traveling to Chicago, Illinois today for a four-day intensive photography seminar called the Digital Wedding Forum University! I am always interested in learning and honing my marketing and business skills, but its particularly exciting that Joy is getting more and more involved in my business and is coming with me to do it, too!

We are not particularly excited about the idea of traveling in light of recent security threats. We're bringing plenty of books to the airport!

Wedding Cinematography

The cool thing about going to so many incredible weddings is the number of truly talented vendors I am priviledged to meet and work with. This past weekend I worked with the very creative cinematic team, Cinematic Studios, who not only had footage of the day for guests to view during the reception, but had made a fun "movie" with the bride and groom a few weeks before as well. The whole thing was really entertaining, and the guests just loved it.

I received an email today letting me know that Cinematic Studios is using two of my images on their website. I can't explain the wonderful feeling I get when my clients are thrilled with their wedding images, but it is equally flattering when another professional finds my images good enough to use on their own sites!

St. Francis Winery, Santa Rosa

elaine & riva.

The St. Francis Winery is such a gorgeous backdrop for a wedding, and it didn't hurt that I had a gorgeous couple to shoot there, either. Its always wonderful when a good coordinator is on hand, and Robbin Montero of A Dream Wedding really kept the schedule on track.
