My Holga

When I started shooting, there was no such thing as digital photography. In fact, back then there were no CDs or DVDs either... okay, I was only 12, but I learned photography on film and developed my images in a darkroom full of chemicals. I still miss that smell.

I do try to shoot a tiny bit of film at each wedding. I don't always get to it, and sadly, my favorite films are being discontinued. I love to pull out my Holga and shoot a roll of Ilford's SFX 200 through a red filter. Does anyone know where I can get more of that film?? I am 99% sure its discontinued.

I loved the Holga stuff from Luke and May Bay's wedding earlier this month... check it out. I love the dreamy look this camera in combination with that film gives!

Here is the actual Holga.

My monthly PUG

On the third Wednesday of each month, I lead the Los Angeles Pictage User Group at my home studio. Last night was that Wednesday, and as usual, it was so much fun! Its a great way for local photographers to get together and network while learning about all the latest promotions and happenings going on at Pictage.

A big thank you to Micaela Bensko for being our Studio Spotlight. It was good to learn more about her, she has a wonderful style.

Thank you to Tobi Rose for the photo!

Yesterday I shot with my good friend, Tiffany Stern at the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point. I really love shooting with my friends, and having such a gorgeous couple at a beautiful venue made it all the more fun.

Disneyland

Heather & Daron have yearly passes to Disneyland, so they thought that would be a cool place to get their engagement portraits done. I couldn't agree more! I had so many favorites...how to choose?? Here are a few:

Santa Clara University

This past Sunday I did a family portait at Santa Clara University. The boys were very sweet and rambunctious. I LOVE the photos because they really seem to capture their spirit.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse & Costanoa

mary beth & luke.

I was excited to meet Mary Beth and Luke who had hired me without having met me in person. They are SUCH a cute couple and got married at the coolest place - Pigeon Point Lighthouse off of highway one! Their reception was at Costanoa Resort & Lodge - a place I've photographed before, and I'm determined to stay at one of these days. Its so gorgeous there.

I have so many favorites that I've decided to just post a few here on my blog, and put the rest into a slideshow. To see the slideshow, please click here.

I'm such a sucker for inscriptions on the inside of the rings!

A little lensbaby action...

I had so much fun speaking at PartnerCon last year that I really wanted to be involved again this year. I am so grateful to Pictage for giving the opportunity to speak and to everyone who attended my lecture for listening. And a big THANK YOU to Kolo Albums for providing me with mini mini albums to give away to my attendees!!

Thank you to Dana Grant for the cute shot of me working that was used in my sign.

Jules Bianchi Photography WINS the album design contest!

ALSO!! Pictage had an album design contest when they launched their new album design program. Since we loved the crazy VEGAS wedding I shot for Joy and her husband, Brett, this past June, we decided to design an album from that. And it WON!!

They printed the whole thing and laid it out on a huge board for everyone to see. If you would like to see the winning album, please click here.

Indian Wedding

chhaya & sameer, part two.

Joy and I had SO much fun at Chhaya & Sameer's wedding this weekend. They both come from such amazing families, and they welcomed both of us in graciously. They gave us gifts and made sure we were well fed, too! I hope to shoot all of Chhaya's friend's weddings because everyone was just so joyous and wonderful! I have posted a bunch of my favorites here, but you can also click the following link to view a SLIDESHOW with much more!!

Chhaya & Sameer's slideshow

Here is a little sample of the Barat - the elaborate processional where Sameer's family arrives at Chhaya's home to be greeted and welcomed by her family.

Chhaya sneaks a peek from the upstairs window...

Chhaya's mother blesses Sameer.

The new sisters hug each other.

Chhaya is escorted to the ceremony to greet her groom.

Chhaya's family manages to lift her higher than Sameer while she puts on his garland. This means that SHE will have all the power in the relationship. Go figure.

Chhaya's parents give her hand to Sameer. I love this shot because you can see Sameer's parents in the foreground...

Chhaya's family showers the couple with rice as they circle the fire.

The seven steps...

Lastly, I love this shot Joy took of me, shooting the couple. You can see the beautiful henna on my arm!!

Sangeet/Mehndhi

chhaya & sameer, part one.

I was very excited to meet Chhaya & Sameer who hired me on recommendation alone. They are an adorable couple who have been following my blog and knew all about me before we ever met. Tonight was Chhaya & Sameer's combination Sangeet (where friends of the bride and groom get know each other and dance the night away) and Mehndi (where the women have their hands intricately designed with henna.) There were such gorgeous colors tonight...I can't wait for the ceremony tomorrow!!
