Disneyland, revisited

Cassie's family flew out from Colorado so that I could shoot her senior portrait at Disneyland. I don't normally do senior portraits, but I'm always up for something new!

It was fun hanging out with the family because they got along so well. They just joked and laughed all day making the photo session really easy!

Carmel Mission Basilica & The Inn at Spanish Bay

mary & scott.
october 28, 2006

On Friday night I drove up from Los Angeles and Joy drove from Pleasant Hill to meet in Carmel for Mary & Scott's wedding the next day. And what a gorgeous day it was! I was so excited when I saw the Carmel Mission Basilica - it is a 200 year old mission with endless amazing places to shoot in.

From the church we made a fun stop at the beach on the 17-mile drive before heading to the lushly decorated ballroom at the Inn at Spanish Bay.

Of course I couldn't choose ALL of my favorites, so to see many more of the photographs from the wedding, I have made a slideshow...just click here!

Family Portrait in Costa Mesa

the fox family.

Justin Fox is a talented musician, and I have shot the cover of a few of his CDs. I just adore his family. I shoot their Christmas card every year and have had fun watching their family grow.

Justin recently sent me a photograph from an old Paul McCartney album and told me that he wanted to try to emulate it for this year's Christmas card.

Here is the album cover:

Now, Justin has more children in his family and they are all older than the two in the photo above... but this was our good effort to match the photo!! I just love the flare!

The adorable little tow-heads, Farrah, Brennan, Kennedy & Holland.

Thank you, Pictage!!

I have been with Pictage since 2003, and I can't tell you how much they have improved my life and business since then! They fulfill all of my print and proof needs as well as offering 2-for-1 promotions and other cool discounts to my clients.

I have spoken at the Pictage Partner Conference in 2005 and 2006 and was able to meet many many other amazing photographers through this.

I also lead the Los Angeles Pictage User Group at my house once a month and have really enjoyed getting the inside scoop from Pictage.

Yesterday, I opened my door to find a very nice surprise waiting for me from Pictage. As a thank you for speaking this year at PartnerCon, they sent me a pound of Peet's Coffee (How did they know I am a TOTAL coffee addict??) and a beautiful leather-bound stainless steel thermos.

THANK YOU PICTAGE!!

The Standard on Sunset

Okay, I'm blogging out of order again, and I'm working today to get yesterday's wedding here, but I just had to put this image up for now.

I had a poolside brunch at The Standard on Sunset with friends today, and I just cracked up when John lifted the menu to read it. Its not a bad shot considering I took it with my Razr phone!

John is an actor and told me that THIS is one of the reasons he doesn't do stock photo shoots...his head might end up on the back of a menu at The Standard!!

The 460 Degrees Gallery

One of my favorite people, Wanda Wen, (from Soolip Paperie & Press) invited me to a really cool party tonight at The 460 Degrees Gallery. The party was presented by Lexus and showcased the new LS 460 - an amazing car. The Gallery will be around for two weeks before it moves to another city.

I was so excited to run into my friend, Scott, who works for Lexus. I see Scott all the time, but only in my computer - we are IM friends... you know, we chat online all the time but never actually hang out in person - so it was really fun to see his live face! Scott writes very good copy, and wrote some text that was in large letters on the walls.

Just for fun, Scott posed for me in front of the text that he wrote...

october 14, 2006

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to shoot the most beautiful wedding in Yorba Linda at the Richard Nixon Library. There were a lot of people and even more details, and the day went smoothly thanks to Jeannie Savage of Details Details Wedding & Event Planning. I also loved the intricate aisle runner provided by Aisle Art Studio. And of course, the amazing flowers were by the fantastic Square Root Designs.

There were just too many favorites to feature here, so I've made fun slideshow of the wedding... Click here to view it!

just a few favs:

I LOVED Christy's insane eyelashes!!

Smokin' hot bride...

Matt & all the fellows...

The creative Aisle Art:

This is always my favorite moment - the announcement of Mr. & Mrs...

The ball room was COVERED in flowers and amazing details...

I love finding creative ways to shoot the wedding bands. Here they are on the silver bottles that were provided for guests to blow bubbles on the couple as they left the building.

I love the back of the girl's dresses!

Check out the bottom of Christy's shoes!! That girl has some style...

Jules Bianchi back on SPM!

The hugely popular Cut Frame TV breaks its "Simple Photo Minutes" into various types of episodes. I was down in Orange County for a family portrait and Chenin Boutwell's birthday party, so I decided to stop in to see my good friend, Dane Sanders, in his new Airstream trailer and contribute to an episode of "What's in your Bag?"

Thank you, Dane, for inviting me to be a part of the Simple Photo Minute again! So fun!! And I LOVE your Airstream trailer...

Pier 39, San Francisco

monica & martin.

After shooting at the Embarcadero last Sunday, I headed down to Pier 39 for my third shoot of the day! Monica & Martin got engaged at Pier 39, so we thought it would be fun to take pictures there.

They are an adorable couple, so I am excited to photograph their wedding next February at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco!

The Embarcadero, San Francisco

sheetal & nithin.

I met Sheetal & Nithin at Chhaya & Sameer's awesome wedding last month.

Although they are already married, Sheetal & Nithin wanted to do some fun portraits together. Last Sunday, I drove from Orinda to the Embarcadero in San Francisco to start the shoot at their home. Then we walked around the Embarcadero to get more urban stuff!

Note to self: Don't agree to go into the city during Fleet Week again. Traffic was UNBELIEVABLE not to mention that there were more people there than I have ever seen.

Family portrait in Orinda

heather, juliet & david.

I shot Heather's wedding a few years ago, so it was really fun meeting her two adorable children last Sunday for a casual family portrait. Where did she come up with such a COOL name for her daughter, I wonder? This was the first shoot of three I had last Sunday in the Bay Area, so in the interest of trying to catch up on my blog, I'm only posting a FEW favorites!

Happy Birthday, Chenin!!

I know I'm blogging out of order again, but I wanted to post some photos from Chenin Boutwell's fun pink birthday party last night.

Pink Party details

Doug & Chenin have the COOLEST house. I like to call this the "Boutwell Wall of Love." It is a wall of nearly floor-to-ceiling photographs of people, places and animals that they love.

We'll call this section, "Power Photography Couples"

Haciendas De Las Flores

vicki & chris.
october 7, 2006

This past Saturday, Joy and I shot Victoria & Chris' wedding at the gorgeous venue, Haciendas De Las Flores.

It had been raining for two days before, but the weather was perfect on Saturday!

As usual, I fell in love with SO many pics, but here are some favorites:

I really like this image that Joy shot of ME...

...taking this shot!

I like how you can see Vicki's family behind her here...

I really love the moment when my bride & groom have their first look...I photographed Vicki...

...while Joy shot Chris' expression. They both look so excited!

One flower girl was Vicki's niece, and the other was Chris' niece, and they were such good friends.

Party people...

Despite the gorgeous backlight, Vicki was glowing all day!

I thought the ceremony site was really cool....

A quick kiss after walking back down the aisle...

I thought the glasses were laid out very creatively!

Cute pink & brown cake... rolled fondant, Joy's FAVORITE!

The bride & groom loved carmel apples, and since this was a Fall wedding, they chose them as their favors. I decided to use the apple stick as a creative way to photograph the wedding bands! I absolutely love this shot.

Another neat-o ring shot...

Beautiful Victoria.

Handsome Chris.

I did not cross process any actual FILM at this wedding, but I love that I have the option in PhotoShop to cross process my digital files with similar effect! Here are Vicki & Chris sitting on the steps that lead to nowhere!

Joy set the couple here for this really pretty shot.

First dance with Joy using the radio slave to light our couple from behind!! I just love this effect.

JB Photography Boutique!

My sister, Joy, has started getting much more involved with my business this year. One of her projects is our new boutique (which will feature wall frames & photo jewlery among other things) and she sent out the first Newsletter to announce it on October 4th! I haven't wanted to blog about it just yet because it's not 100% finished, but I think its got enough there that people can start thinking about what they might need for the holidays.

Redwood City

grace.

Last year, Grace and her family came to my mother's house for me to photograph them when she was a year and a half old. This past Sunday, I drove to Redwood City to photograph the family in their new home. It was fun to see my images on their walls from last year's shoot...it really made my job feel worthwhile and meaningful.

I absolutely LOVE this family, and I had so much fun documenting Grace playing in her yard.

San Anselmo

chiaron & chris.

On Saturday, Joy and I shot the most quaint wedding in San Anselmo. Because it took place at the home of the Chiaron's parents - where she had grown up - there was very special meaning in the venue. I love shooting at private residences because the weddings tend to have a much more cosy, intimate feeling.

I really would love to blog more because I absolutely LOVED the images we got from this wedding, but I have been working all day on a special project that will be announced very soon!
