Olive Goes to the Hollywood Bowl

This weekend, Olive and her longtime friend, Matilda, decided to make another page for the "Olive Goes to Hollywood" book with a visit to the famous Hollywood Bowl.

Unfortunately, the season doesn't really start until June, so no shows were on, and no snacks could be obtained.

Still, it was cool to check out this Hollywood Landmark!

Personal Projects are good for you

One of the things I spoke about on Monday night was finding personal projects to keep inspired. In fact, here are a few I've done in the past:

The Alphabet at Disneyland

The Colors at the Farmer's Market

Today Kevin had the group go out and shoot a personal project around the Ranch. I decided to join in and use it as a good excuse to play with the Lensbaby. Can you guess what I decided to do mine on?

If you haven't guessed already... I figured since I was here with MY twin, I would find other twins!!

Hanging out at the Kubota Bootcamp

Even though I am finished speaking, I'm just hanging out here at the bootcamp for a few days to spend time with Joy and soak up Kevin's amazing PhotoShop knowledge. Since Joy's in-laws are in Bend, her whole family came up for the week to stay with them. Yesterday, Joy's girls came out to model for the group. The girls loved it! I couldn't help myself... I joined in to snapped a few shots, too. Later it was fun to see the hundreds of cool shots the group took of my nieces.

Firestone Vineyards, Crossroads Estate

maya & kevin
april 19, 2008

Saturday's wedding at the Firestone Vineyards venue, Crossroads Estate, was spectacular. Maya & Kevin were ALL about taking photos - my kind of couple! Their wedding party was a group of people with the BEST attitude... you can't really tell in the photos, but it was COLD out that day! Still, everyone was in great spirits the whole day.

I love so many images from the wedding... here are many of my favorites and the slideshow that we played at the reception. Click on the play icon to watch the show or click here if you'd like to see it in its own window.

Speaking at the Kubota Bootcamp

I was so flattered when the fabulous Kevin Kubota invited me to be the Guest Speaker at his popular Digital Photography Bootcamp. Kevin has been empowering photographers across the Galaxy - including yours truly who has used his PhotoShop Actions for years.

Traveling always fills me with excitement. Anything can happen... like your flight can be canceled, you can be re-routed through another city and your luggage can get lost. :)

Bootcamp is a week-long experience at a remote place called Rock Springs Dude Ranch. Dude, check out the view this morning:

I revised a talk I gave at PartnerCon in 2005 called: Finding Clients Who Love You (and will rave about you to their friends). It was such a great group! I wanted to show really recent work, so I played the slideshow that I did at Kevin & Maya's wedding reception on Saturday. Can't get more recent than that!

Crossroads Winery, Los Olivos

Today's wedding was two hours of driving EACH direction, so I am very tired right now. Shannon and I had a great day, however, and I wanted to post two images that caught my eye as I was downloading them. I will try to get more up tomorrow, but I have to prepare for the talk I'm giving at Kevin Kubota's Bootcamp on monday and my flight is at 9am Monday morning. Going to sleep now!

Win a Shootsac on Jules Café!

Jules Café has teamed up with the fabulous Jessica Claire of Shootsac and she is donating Shootsacs for our lucky Jules Café winners! Thank you Jess! I love my shootsac and use it all the time. You will love yours too!

All you have to do to enter is this: sign up for the newsletter here. If you are already on our newsletter list, you are already entered in the contest. When we get back from Oregon next week, we will randomly choose the winners and they will be announced in the newsletter that you are signing up for.

Don't worry, we don't like spam any more than you do, and there is always an unsubscribe button if you wanna get out. But you won't.

Jessica Claire put a lot of thought into her bag because she made a bag that she herself wanted to use. It is the first lens bag designed to pick up where your camera bag leaves off--it's designed just for shooting. Lenses, batteries, flashcards & necessities are comfortably at your fingertips. Can a camera bag really change the way you shoot? Shootsac thinks so. I think so, too.

My favorite shootsac cover: Festive!

Monthly PUG

I love being the Los Angeles Pictage User Group leader. Its such a great way to meet other local photographers and hear great speakers. Last night we had our April meeting. Thank you to Ann Kelley for being our Studio Spotlight. The PUG always takes place at Ann's house, so she was able to show us all of her cute products and how she uses her house to demonstrate to her portrait clients how their prints might look when hung on the walls.

Thank you, also, to Erik Johnson who was our speaker for the night. His discussion on the key categories of a balanced life helped us to identify what would really lead to our increased happiness and success.

Thank you to Michael Andrews for these cute photos of me leading the group!

PINK'S goes to the dogs

Olive made a new friend today! Ann Hamilton is in town from San Francisco and she brought her adorable Pug, Bogie, with her.

Olive and Bogie became fast friends and they decided to take a little trip to the Hollywood landmark, PINK'S hotdogs.

I have actually been wanting to make a book called "Olive Goes to Hollywood" for years now. The book would be about Olive taking her dog friends to various landmarks around Hollywood, and I think I'm going to try to start it now. Those of you who read this blog who know me personally and have dogs that know Olive, be sure to contact me to be in the book!

i love the internet

Between Facebook, My Space, my blog, everyone ELSE'S blogs, OSP, DWF, the Pictage Forum, the Jules CAFE daily special... its definitely hard to keep up. But I still love it all! My new favorite is Twitter. I'm totally addicted now. I have my close friends and family on mobile phone alert and it feels like ESP - even though Joy and my mother live 400 miles away from me, I always know what's going on!

Check it out! Follow me on Twitter! I discovered today there is even an RSS feed if you aren't a Twitterer yourself.

Coyote Hills Golf Course

Shannon Lott has been my second shooter for a while and is now the new Jules Bianchi Photography Associate. I just adore both her easy-going personality and her cool shooting style. Before she signed on with me however, Shannon had already booked a few weddings under her own company for this year. Today she was shooting one of those weddings, so I decided to tag along and be HER second shooter for the day. I love second shooting because its all the fun of the wedding with none of the responsibility! (okay, there's still responsibility, but there's certainly a lot less pressure when you're not in charge!)

Today's bride was a twin, like me! Here are just a couple of favorites:

The Hollywood Bowl

After answering the questions in my engagement session questionnaire, Lauren & Adam chose the Hollywood Bowl to have their shoot. They felt it captured their love of theatre and the fact that they are both super comfortable onstage. And since it's such an LA landmark, Lauren felt that it signified how Adam has made a life here in Los Angeles to be with her. I love it!!

The Getty Center

Today I met Natalie & Kyle up at The Getty Center for their engagement session. I love shooting engagement sessions because it gives me a chance to get to know my couples a little bit more before their wedding day. I'm really looking forward to theirs this May because Natalie & Kyle were super easy going and fun to be around. Thanks for a fun afternoon, guys!!

Happy Birthday, Penelope!

After my engagement shoot on Saturday, I headed back to my sister, Joy's, house to photograph my niece, Penelope's, 7th birthday party. This year the theme was Webkins, and my 16 year old brother, Jeffrey, (the good sport that he is) showed up as the Webkins' "Chef Gazpacho" to bake Popsicle Cookies with the girls!

I was SUPER impressed that my mother personalized aprons for each girl by embroidering their name and the face of Chef Gazpacho onto each one! I have the best family. If you would like anything embroidered, you can see more information about her services by clicking here.

San Francisco Engagement Shoot

Young & Tim are getting married in San Francisco this September, and Tim proposed to Young at the Coit Tower. We thought it most appropriate to do their engagement shoot in and around North Beach today. It was fine weather and a really fun time!

Oviatt Penthouse, Los Angeles

michelle & chris
march 29, 2008

Shannon and I had such a good time shooting at The Oviatt Penthouse on Saturday.

The weather was lovely, Annie & Charlie (Michelle & Chris' dogs) were in the wedding party and the Penthouse had this amazing art deco style to it. And thanks to Jodie Watson of Supreme Organization, the wedding progressed flawlessly. Thank you to Jarrad Lister who joined us all the way from South Carolina as part of his Tea for Two learning experience with me.
