The Art of the Gift with Wanda Wen

For the past two weeks, I've been working with Wanda Wen (owner and founder of the beautiful Soolip) shooting the photography for her new book, The Art of the Gift. Using a vast array of materials, the book will teach how to create the gorgeous gifts Soolip is famous for. We aren't actually finished yet, but here are a few of the "glamour shots" of some of the gifts we've completed so far. Aren't they darling??

Handmade Furnishings

Yesterday, I spent a few hours with John McDonald of "A Handmade Home." He, Olive and I visited two of his client's homes to photograph some of his finished pieces for his portfolio. John makes gorgeous one-off pieces as well as custom kitchens and cabinets. Although his new website isn't quite ready for public consumption yet, here is a link to his old blog, Mesa Custom Furnishings, if you'd like to check out more work.

Now I love John's work, but I was by far more excited to shoot his client's dogs, Hannah...

...and Arlow.

Soolip Wholesale

I just adore everything Soolip. I have shot their store interiors, three A Soolip Weddings, their line of hip wedding invitations, their uber cool corporate invitations and family portraits for owner and founder, Wanda Wen. Today, my house was like a mini-Soolip store with products scattered about as I shot them for the new ecommerce site. Now you can buy yummy Soolip goodies at stores across the U.S.!!

Here is a small sample of what we shot. To see more, click here!

Everything is so lush and textural, I just LOVE it.

Mimi & Hy, Studio City

I shot Ali's wedding back in 2003, and today I photographed the decadent store she and her sister, Leah, opened on Saturday. Click here to see the Mimi & Hy, General Store for the Fabulous splash page! Also, check out the very cool piece that Daily Candy wrote about them today.

There is SO much good stuff to be had there - candles, clothing, bags, books, jewelry...My personal favorite was the funky candy bar that featured gummy deliciousness of all kinds, the fabulous Dylan's chocolates, and many other kinds of treats.

Co-owners, Ali & Leah.

Soolip, part two

If I ever get married, Soolip is going to make the invitations. They are just so creative!

Last year I photographed Soolip's line of wedding invitations, and this year I took care of their corporate invitations. After photographing the store yesterday, I took the invitations home with me to photograph today.

Soolip Paperie & Press

I have always loved Soolip Paperie & Press. They have the most gorgeous paper, gift wrapping ideas, glassware, etc. I feel so lucky to be able to call Soolip's founder, Wanda Wen, my friend! She asked me to come by today to snap a few shots so that they can update their website.

Johnnie-O

I have been friends with John O'Donnell for about 10 years now, and I am so excited for him because he's started up his own line of cool clothing! John is an avid golfer, and this clothing line is all about that particular sport.

To get awesome product shots of his clothing line, Mr. Johnnie-O hired his good friend, Jules Bianchi. We had fun together getting those shots, but what I'm looking forward to is the fashion shoot we'll be doing in a few weeks featuring gentlemen wearing Johnnie-O on the golf course! You can check out the Johnnie-O website by clicking here. (Of course, I just photographed the line today so there isn't much on his site yet... but give it a few days!)

Here are a few detail shots and a few of the product colors just to give you an idea of what we did today. Check out the neat features on the shorts like the built-in shammie to clean off a dirty golf ball, or the ability to embroider your club's logo on the back! Invitations by Soolip

Wanda Wen, founder of the fantastic Soolip Paperie & Press, called me yesterday and asked if I could photograph some of their beautiful invitations asap because she needed some images for a magazine deadline. I have always loved Soolip and A Soolip Wedding and was happy to do the favor. Wanda messengered the invitations last night, and Jessica and I worked on it for most of today. If you are getting married and still need to find your invitations, look no further! Soolip has an amazing collection.

Here are a few of my favorites. To see more, please click here.
