JBP featured in Los Angeles Weddings Magazine!!

Congratulations to Christy & Matt for having their stunning wedding featured in the latest issue of Los Angeles Weddings Magazine. The wedding took place at The Richard Nixon Library and was flawlessly put together by the talented Jeannie Savage of Details Details Wedding & Event Planning.

I have always loved LA Weddings Magazine, and I am thrilled to have one of my weddings featured in a five-page spread in their latest issue. However, the BEST part is that I'm being featured along side some of the most talented photographers in the country: Jessica Claire, Elizabeth Messina, Yvette Roman, Ryan Phillips, & Yitzak Dalal.

Check it out!

Year in Review

2006 was an incredible year. I had the privilege to shoot some amazing weddings with the most gorgeous details, beautiful people, delicious food, wonderful flowers... I really can't believe how fortunate I am. I can honestly say that I love my job.

Also, I'm very lucky to have talented friends who are also wedding photographers, and this year I had the honor of shooting with a few of them. Thank you to Tiffany Stern, Dina Douglass, Sara France, Sterling Franken-Steffen, Anna Kuperberg & David Jay for inviting me to shoot with you this year.

Although I shot some really cool engagement portraits and beautiful family sittings, I have decided only to include the weddings in this slideshow.

New Year's Eve with David Jay, Dane & Brett!!

David Jay is a friend of mine and a photographer I have admired for some time. I was thrilled when he asked me back in August to shoot his New Year's Eve wedding with him, Dane Sanders, and Brett Austin.

Last night's wedding was hands down the most unbelievable thing I have seen in a long time. It was a looong day (11am - 2am) but it was such a pleasure to be shooting along side such talented photographers, and we all had a rockin' good time! Unfortunately, we are not at liberty to post any of the actual photographs from the wedding because it is going to be published and must be kept under wraps until then. However, at the end of the night we all jumped into the photobooth and did these fun self-portraits.

Click on the links to DJ and Dane's blogs to see the other versions of our photobooth self-portrait as well as a few other fun pics from the night.

There was a whole team producing this wedding and we all communicated with headsets, as if we were on a movie set. It was a Christmas theme, and it felt like we were working in Narnia!!

The Mitten House, Redlands

heather & daron.
november 19, 2006

Despite the heat, yesterday's wedding in Redlands was really lovely. Heather & Daron were so enthusiastic, and they were really excited about getting fun shots! They saw each other before the ceremony so we could make the best use of the afternoon light.

There were so many beautiful aspects to Heather & Daron's wedding that I have made a slideshow if you're interested in seeing more. Just click here!

On a sidenote, I used the amber top on Gary Fong's lightsphere for the reception, and I was very pleased with the natural-looking results.

Carmel Mission Basilica & The Inn at Spanish Bay

mary & scott.
october 28, 2006

On Friday night I drove up from Los Angeles and Joy drove from Pleasant Hill to meet in Carmel for Mary & Scott's wedding the next day. And what a gorgeous day it was! I was so excited when I saw the Carmel Mission Basilica - it is a 200 year old mission with endless amazing places to shoot in.

From the church we made a fun stop at the beach on the 17-mile drive before heading to the lushly decorated ballroom at the Inn at Spanish Bay.

Of course I couldn't choose ALL of my favorites, so to see many more of the photographs from the wedding, I have made a slideshow...just click here!

Richard Nixon Library

christy & matt.
october 14, 2006

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to shoot the most beautiful wedding in Yorba Linda at the Richard Nixon Library. There were a lot of people and even more details, and the day went smoothly thanks to Jeannie Savage of Details Details Wedding & Event Planning. I also loved the intricate aisle runner provided by Aisle Art Studio. And of course, the amazing flowers were by the fantastic Square Root Designs.

There were just too many favorites to feature here, so I've made fun slideshow of the wedding... Click here to view it!

just a few favs:

I LOVED Christy's insane eyelashes!!

Smokin' hot bride...

Matt & all the fellows...

The creative Aisle Art:

Getting married.

This is always my favorite moment - the announcement of Mr. & Mrs...

The ball room was COVERED in flowers and amazing details...

I love finding creative ways to shoot the wedding bands. Here they are on the silver bottles that were provided for guests to blow bubbles on the couple as they left the building.

I love the back of the girl's dresses!

Check out the bottom of Christy's shoes!! That girl has some style...

Haciendas De Las Flores

vicki & chris.
october 7, 2006

This past Saturday, Joy and I shot Victoria & Chris' wedding at the gorgeous venue, Haciendas De Las Flores.

It had been raining for two days before, but the weather was perfect on Saturday!

As usual, I fell in love with SO many pics, but here are some favorites:

I really like this image that Joy shot of ME...

...taking this shot!

I like how you can see Vicki's family behind her here...

I really love the moment when my bride & groom have their first look...I photographed Vicki...

...while Joy shot Chris' expression. They both look so excited!

One flower girl was Vicki's niece, and the other was Chris' niece, and they were such good friends.

Party people...

Despite the gorgeous backlight, Vicki was glowing all day!

I thought the ceremony site was really cool....

A quick kiss after walking back down the aisle...

I thought the glasses were laid out very creatively!

Cute pink & brown cake... rolled fondant, Joy's FAVORITE!

The bride & groom loved carmel apples, and since this was a Fall wedding, they chose them as their favors. I decided to use the apple stick as a creative way to photograph the wedding bands! I absolutely love this shot.

Another neat-o ring shot...

Beautiful Victoria.

Handsome Chris.

I did not cross process any actual FILM at this wedding, but I love that I have the option in PhotoShop to cross process my digital files with similar effect! Here are Vicki & Chris sitting on the steps that lead to nowhere!

Joy set the couple here for this really pretty shot.

First dance with Joy using the radio slave to light our couple from behind!! I just love this effect.

San Anselmo

chiaron & chris.

On Saturday, Joy and I shot the most quaint wedding in San Anselmo. Because it took place at the home of the Chiaron's parents - where she had grown up - there was very special meaning in the venue. I love shooting at private residences because the weddings tend to have a much more cosy, intimate feeling.

I really would love to blog more because I absolutely LOVED the images we got from this wedding, but I have been working all day on a special project that will be announced very soon!

Pigeon Point Lighthouse & Costanoa

mary beth & luke.

I was excited to meet Mary Beth and Luke who had hired me without having met me in person. They are SUCH a cute couple and got married at the coolest place - Pigeon Point Lighthouse off of highway one! Their reception was at Costanoa Resort & Lodge - a place I've photographed before, and I'm determined to stay at one of these days. Its so gorgeous there.

I have so many favorites that I've decided to just post a few here on my blog, and put the rest into a slideshow. To see the slideshow, please click here.

I'm such a sucker for inscriptions on the inside of the rings!

Indian Wedding

chhaya & sameer, part two.

Joy and I had SO much fun at Chhaya & Sameer's wedding this weekend. They both come from such amazing families, and they welcomed both of us in graciously. They gave us gifts and made sure we were well fed, too! I hope to shoot all of Chhaya's friend's weddings because everyone was just so joyous and wonderful! I have posted a bunch of my favorites here, but you can also click the following link to view a SLIDESHOW with much more!!

Chhaya & Sameer's slideshow

Here is a little sample of the Barat - the elaborate processional where Sameer's family arrives at Chhaya's home to be greeted and welcomed by her family.

Chhaya sneaks a peek from the upstairs window...

Chhaya's mother blesses Sameer.

The new sisters hug each other.

Chhaya is escorted to the ceremony to greet her groom.

Chhaya's family manages to lift her higher than Sameer while she puts on his garland. This means that SHE will have all the power in the relationship. Go figure.

Chhaya's parents give her hand to Sameer. I love this shot because you can see Sameer's parents in the foreground...

Chhaya's family showers the couple with rice as they circle the fire.

The seven steps...

Lastly, I love this shot Joy took of me, shooting the couple. You can see the beautiful henna on my arm!!

Sangeet/Mehndhi

chhaya & sameer, part one.

I was very excited to meet Chhaya & Sameer who hired me on recommendation alone. They are an adorable couple who have been following my blog and knew all about me before we ever met. Tonight was Chhaya & Sameer's combination Sangeet (where friends of the bride and groom get know each other and dance the night away) and Mehndi (where the women have their hands intricately designed with henna.) There were such gorgeous colors tonight...I can't wait for the ceremony tomorrow!!

jennifer & michael.

After Jennifer told me how Michael proposed to her, (think fireworks in GREECE) I couldn't wait to shoot their wedding because I knew it would be impressive. I was not disappointed. What a gorgeous, elaborate and detailed affair! In an effort to blog about this right away, I am putting up a FEW of my favorites. I will have to do a separate post of all the amazing details!

Yesterday was a crazy 14 hour day, so I want to give a huge thank you to Robert Evans, Jennifer Zivolich, and Amy Trahant for joining me and lending me their fantastic talent.

I also want to highly recommend Carolyn Chen and her company, The Special Day Event Design and Coordination. She made Jennifer and Michael's 450 person wedding move along so effortlessly, and she and her team were a pleasure to work with.

Laura & Andrew's slideshow

I love having a slideshow during the reception of my weddings so that the guests can check out what we've been up to all day! Laura and Andrew were having such a good time at their wedding on Saturday, they didn't get to see the show, but after hearing raves about it from all their friends, now they really want to!

Today I used the very simple ShowIt Web software to put the slideshow online for them. Click here or on the image below to check it out.

I was really excited to finally meet Christine and Doug since up until the wedding we had only spoken over the phone. They turned out to be an extremely cool couple with impeccable taste. Jolie, from City Celebrations, did an amazing job of pulling off a flawless event.

During the reception, I often have a slideshow of the day's favorite images from the wedding. I have finally gotten on the ball and used the cool ShowIt Web program to bring a smaller version of the slideshow to my blog! You can check out Christine & Doug's slideshow by clicking here.

Its always so hard to choose my favorites, but here are a few:

Las Vegas Wedding!

My sister, Joy, and her husband, Brett, were married June 10, 1995. For their eleven-year anniversary, they decided to renew their vows Vegas-style! I drove out there on Saturday morning to join them for one of the funniest weddings I've ever attended. More impressive, though, is that Joy wore the same wedding gown as she did for her original wedding!

Shooting with Becker

Tonight I spent my New Year's Eve shooting a wedding with my good friend, the wildly talented photographer Becker. He is so inspirational, and I learn so much from him. Thanks, b, for asking me to come along.

There were plenty of adorable children to shoot, which I love.

I just love this shot I took of Becker - it rained the entire day, but he's such a trouper... he was determined to get a shot of all the men in the front of the church, (please check out tonight's wedding on his blog to see it, its really fantastic) and someone was kind enough to hold the umbrella (unlike me who was hiding under the overhang shooting him with a very long lens.)

probably the kookiest thing I've seen at a wedding...a wedding pyramid!

and of course, the New Year's Eve Count Down.
